Cookie Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-21

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies Write On! (the "Service") uses, and why. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies

At launch, the Service sets no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics cookies. We don't run ads, and we don't track you across other sites. Every cookie we set ourselves is strictly necessary to make the Service work, as detailed below.

2. Cookies we set

Cookie Purpose Type Duration
_web_app_key Phoenix session cookie. Keeps you signed in and remembers basic session state (e.g. flash messages, CSRF protection) as you navigate the Service. Essential Session (cleared when you sign out or your session expires)
CSRF / LiveView connection token Protects form submissions and the real-time LiveView connection from cross-site request forgery. Issued per page load and required for the drawing/annotation interface to function. Essential Session

Because these cookies are strictly necessary for the Service to function (signing in, submitting forms, keeping the live-updating annotation canvas connected), we don't show a cookie-consent banner for them — most privacy laws don't require consent for strictly-necessary cookies. We do not set any optional first-party cookies at launch.

3. Third-party cookies: YouTube embeds

If you add a YouTube video to a project, the Service embeds YouTube's own video player in an iframe. That iframe is served by YouTube/Google, and Google may set its own cookies in connection with it (for example, to remember player preferences or for its own purposes as described in Google's Cookie Policy ). We don't control these cookies, and they aren't set unless you add a YouTube video to your project. Local video files and direct video URLs you provide don't involve any third-party embed and set no third-party cookies.

4. Controlling cookies in your browser

Most browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies through their settings. Blocking essential cookies will prevent you from signing in or using the sync and annotation features of the Service, since they depend on your session being maintained. You can find cookie controls in your browser's settings, typically under "Privacy" or "Cookies and site data."

5. Changes to this policy

We don't currently use advertising or analytics cookies, but if that ever changes — for example, if we introduce optional analytics or advertising in the future — we will update this Cookie Policy first and, where required, ask for your consent before setting any new non-essential cookie.
