For people who teach and learn from video

Put drawings in the video. Keep notes beside it.

Creators can bake Excalidraw drawings into footage they own. Viewers can make timestamped side notes alongside a standard platform player. Share both through one Write On! lesson link—without covering the video.

The player stays clean. The context stays close.

Restrictive platforms do not need to end visual note-taking. Viewers can draw and write beside the standard player. Creators who want everyone to see a visual explanation can render it into the video before upload.

One video. Two ways to use Write On!

Creators publish a finished video and share a Write On! link with their own timestamped drawings, notes, and references. Viewers open that link to browse the shared material, add side notes of their own, and jump back to the moment each idea appears.

Draw with Excalidraw. Keep side notes as editable files, share selected notes with a lesson, or open them in Obsidian.

Write On! for creators and viewers

Creator path

Make the explanation part of the video

Draw over source footage you own, set when each mark appears, and export a new video with those drawings baked in. Upload it to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Vimeo, X, or another platform through your normal creator workflow.

Viewer path

Make notes without touching the player

Draw and write in a side panel synchronized to the video. Every note keeps its timestamp and links. Save it locally, open it in Obsidian, or download the Excalidraw source.

For creators: publish the video and its notes

01 Open your footage
Start with a raw video you own or have permission to edit. Work locally from the source file, before it reaches YouTube or another publishing platform.
02 Draw where it helps
Pause on a frame and use Excalidraw to circle, underline, diagram, or write. Each drawing keeps its place on the timeline.
03 Bake it into the video
Export a finished video with every drawing rendered into the picture. Upload that file to YouTube as you normally would—no playback overlay required.
04 Publish the companion notes
Attach the public video to a Write On! lesson page with notes in the sidebar. Share one link so viewers can click timestamps, download your materials, and add side notes of their own.

On restrictive platforms, Write On! never places drawings over the embedded player. Creator drawings go into the uploaded video; creator and viewer notes stay beside it.

For viewers: keep your own margin

01

Open the lesson

Follow a creator's Write On! link or add a supported platform video.

02

Note beside it

Sketch, write, and collect links in a synchronized side panel.

03

Take it with you

Click back to any timestamp or download notes for Excalidraw and Obsidian.

Questions

Can I take notes on an existing platform video?
Yes. As a viewer, you draw and write beside the standard player. To put drawings inside the video itself, you must be the creator or have permission to edit the source footage.
What does the viewer receive?
They watch your standard published video with your selected notes in a companion sidebar. They can click timestamps, download the associated Excalidraw/Obsidian notes and links, and add their own side notes.
Can I edit a drawing after export?
Yes. The source stays editable as a real Excalidraw file. Change it in your project, then export the finished video again.
Where do my source notes live?
Creator source projects and viewer side notes live locally first. Export to Excalidraw or Obsidian whenever you want; cloud sync and shared lesson pages are explicit choices.
